The annual Fall Meeting of the New York State Bluebird Society will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting will be held at The NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation's Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne. The Rogers Center has 600 acres with a variety of habitats for the walker, bird watcher and photographer. The trails traverse woodlands, meadows, wetlands, plantations and farm fields. The upper gallery of the Visitor Center (where the meeting will be held) offers a view of the marsh, enabling visitors to see geese, ducks, muskrats, great blue herons and osprey.
There will be coffee available prior to the start of the meeting and a bird walk, led by Bev Ruska, is scheduled for 9 a.m.
Three programs will be presented. Valerie Freer will speak on Saw-whet Owls, members of NYSBS will present a program on Purple Martins, and Ray Briggs will speak on plantings for bluebirds.
Please bring a dish to pass for the lunch to be served. A meat and cheese platter will be provided.
Also, please bring items for the silent auction.
Those who are driving a distance and wish to stay overnight may make reservations at the Howard Johnson's in Norwich. A block of rooms have been reserved. The cost is $68.00/night. You may reach the motel at 607-334-2200 and identify yourself as being with NYSBS.
Those who come on Friday are invited to join us for dinner at 6 p.m. at the Howard Johnson's. Please contact John Ruska at 716-410-5456 for dinner reservations. There will be a Board of Directors meeting following the dinner.
We welcome all to this meeting so bring a friend or friends. It should be a beautiful fall meeting in a lovely area of NYS.
The Rogers Environments Education Center is located at 2721 State Highway 80 which is one mile west of the intersection of Rts. 80 and 12. |
